Options after year 11

Your options after year 11 include:

By continuing with full-time education at school, college or with a training provider you may gain qualifications such as:

  1. AS and A Levels (Level 3)
  2. an Applied General Qualification (BTECs, Diplomas) or Tech Level (Level 3)
  3. T Levels (the first four of a new range of employment sector-based qualifications) (Level 3)
  4. other vocational and general qualifications (Entry Level, level 1 and Level 2)

You could get a bursary to help with education-related costs if you’re aged 16 to 19 and:

  • studying at a publicly funded school or college in England - not a university
  • on a training course, including unpaid work experience

A publicly funded school is one that does not charge you for attending it.

If you would like to earn while you learn, consider an apprenticeship. York's Apprenticeship Hub has details of many local apprenticeship opportunities. The national  Apprenticeships website has information and real-life stories about becoming an apprentice.

Apprenticeship training (Level 2 to 3) is combined with a job, with progression opportunities post-18.

Traineeships (Level 2 and below), prepare young people for an apprenticeship, employment or further education and training. They consist of substantial work experience and learning in English, mathematics and employability skills.

The Skills to Succeed Academy offers free online employability training delivered in bite sized interactive modules.

  • keeping motivated
  • being your best in interviews
  • dealing with anxiety
