Getting help for children aged 3 to 5 years
You can get help for children aged 3 to 5 years from:
- the Health Visiting Team if there are concerns around your child’s speech, language and communication skills and they will work with you (and your child’s setting if applicable) to plan some support
- your childcare provider or school, if it is involved in Early Talk for York, will have additional resources to support your child. If the childcare provider or school is at Steps 2 or 3 of Early Talk for York they will have specially trained staff who can provide additional support for your child. Ask your childcare provider or school for details
- Early Start courses running at community venues of which have a focus on supporting speech, language and communication development
- a range of parenting support options which are available across the city
- additional support which is in place for your child by the school or setting using a ‘My Support Plan’ or ‘My Agreed Outcomes.' Speak to the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) at your child’s setting for more information

- Peer to peer support
Depending on level of need, settings can apply for additional funding to support children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), for example Early Years Pupil premium or Inclusion funding.
