Getting help for children aged 0 to 2 years
Getting help for children aged 0 to 2 years
You can get help for children aged 0 to 2 years from:
- your Health Visitor, depending on your personal circumstances. Your child may be assessed by the Health Visiting Team or childcare provider using WellComm. You'll be provided with activities to try with your child to support them as appropriate. If your child attends a childcare provider that is involved in Early Talk for York the provider will have additional resources to support your child. If the childcare provider is at Steps 2 or 3 of Early Talk for York they will have specially trained staff who can provide additional support for your child. Ask your child’s provider for details
- the Learning Support Hub, run by City of York Council, provides some advice and support where people around a child have concerns about their development
- Early Start courses running at the community venues, which have a focus on supporting speech, language and communication development
If your child attends a setting, they may put some additional support in place for your child using a ‘My Support Plan’ or ‘My Agreed Outcomes’. Speak to the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) at your child’s setting for more information about support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
You can access more specialist advice if needed from the following services:
- York and Scarborough Speech and Language Therapy NHS website
- Speech and Language UK
