How to keep your child active

How to keep your child active

It's very important to keep your child active at any age. The guidance for 6 to 17 years olds is to aim for at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

As children get older there are more temptations, like watching television or playing on game consoles, which fill their time. Some children may need a gentle push to encourage them, but finding the right activity for them will help. Try to find an activity that is fun and will keep them motivated or, try and do activities that you can do together.

A bike ride with friends or going to the gym together means they get the exercise, as well as social interaction. They may find a team or club sport is good for them, such as football, tennis or hockey. There are lots of fun ways to introduce physical activity into every day life.

Always encourage your child in a positive way, even if your child may not be the best at the sport they have chosen. Let them know how important it is to participate and enjoy the activity.
