WellComm offers available

The opportunity to purchase WellComm Toolkits at a subsidised rate, via Early Talk for York, has now ended. However, there remains lots of ongoing support and training in relation to WellComm.


This training is suitable for all those new to using the WellComm Toolkit. It may be that your team have recently started using the Toolkit or that you have new or returning members of the team who would benefit from training. Training sessions are available directly from the Speech and Language Therapists and are open to as many staff as is useful for all those providers interested in using WellComm.

Are you currently using a WellComm toolkit in your setting and want to link with others who are also using it?

If so, our Specialist Speech and Language Therapists for Early Talk for York will be leading a series of online WellComm Workshops, with support from members of the Speech, Language and Communication Hub and we’d love you to join us.

The workshops provide advice and training around how to use activities and ideas from the ‘Big Book of Ideas’, as well as how to embed strategies into everyday practice. There will also be opportunities for those attending to share their own experience and ideas from using the WellComm toolkit, and to bring any questions to the group.

The online workshops will take place on the following dates, feel free to attend as many as you would like.

Autumn term 2025:

  • Wellcomm and Working with Parents, Wednesday 1 October 2025, 12.00pm to 1.00pm
  • Embedding Wellcomm into everyday practice, Wednesday 12 November, 2025, 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Supporting children with English as an Additional Language with the Early Talk for York approach, Tuesday 25 November, 12.00pm to 1.00pm

Spring term 2026:

  • Using the Wellcomm toolkit with children with SEND, Wednesday 4 February 2026, 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Supporting children with English as an Additional Language with the Early Talk for York approach, Thursday 19 March 2026, 4.00pm to 5.00pm

Summer term 2026:

  • Evaluating progress with Wellcomm and Looking ahead, Wednesday 13 May 2026, 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Early Talk for York Drop-in session with the Specialist Team, Wednesday 17 June 2026, 3.30pm to 5.00pm, Please drop in with any questions related to Wellcomm or the ETFY approach

These interactive workshops will explore how you can support children’s language and communication development in your school or setting using identified themes and outcomes from your WellComm screens.

As always there will be opportunities to share your ideas and hear top tips from other schools/settings.

The independent evaluation of WellComm in York, completed by the University of York in 2023, highlighted a number of areas that practitioners reported wanting further support with. For each of these areas we have developed some ‘How to’ guides which share best practice and learning from across the city. If you're a childminder wanting access to use of the WellComm Toolkit, we operate a free lending service via the city’s libraries and options from local schools and settings. Childminders are warmly welcomed at all of our training.

If you're a working in an out of school club and are wanting access to use of the WellComm Toolkit, we operate a free lending service via the city’s libraries and options from local schools and settings. Out of school club staff are warmly welcomed at all of our training.

We encourage you to work with your local schools to understand both individual and cohort needs identified and consider your practice and provision in how you might support and respond to these.
