Manager - Appleton Roebuck Preschool

Appleton Roebuck Preschool is a small, community-run preschool with a genuine “family feel.”

We're proud to be at the heart of our village, providing a caring, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children can grow, explore, and flourish.

Our setting is built on warmth, trust, and strong relationships—with children, families, and the local community.

We're looking for an experienced and passionate Preschool Manager to lead our dedicated team and ensure that our preschool continues to provide high-quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted requirements.

Role Overview

As Preschool Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management and day-to-day running of the setting. You'll lead by example, inspiring your team to deliver the highest standards of early years care and education.

This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding, compliance, and curriculum leadership, balanced with a genuine love for children, families, and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • provide effective leadership and management of the preschool, ensuring a safe, caring, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children
  • ensure the preschool meets all statutory requirements, including safeguarding, health and safety, EYFS standards, and Ofsted expectations
  • lead and support staff to plan, deliver, and evaluate a high-quality, play-based curriculum following the EYFS framework
  • act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring all safeguarding policies are implemented and understood by all staff
  • maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection procedures, and early years best practice
  • build and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community, promoting a family-focused ethos
  • manage administrative duties including enrolment, attendance, staff rotas, budgets, and record-keeping
  • oversee staff recruitment, induction, supervision, training, and appraisals
  • ensure that all children’s individual needs are met and that each child’s progress is observed, assessed, and recorded appropriately
  • liaise with Ofsted, local authorities, and external agencies as required
  • ensure all health, safety, and hygiene procedures are followed consistently
  • foster a supportive, positive team culture where staff feel valued and motivated

To comply with statutory and Ofsted requirements for a Preschool Manager, candidates must have the following:

  • minimum Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (e.g., NVQ Level 3, CACHE Diploma, or equivalent)
  • a Level 5 qualification (Foundation Degree or equivalent) is highly desirable
